The Parsons Telegraph, in partnership with the City of Parsons, invites the citizens of Kansas to share in the celebration and join this special one-time screening of “KODACHROME” – a Netflix original film, directed by Mark Raso, written by Jonathan Tropper, starring Jason Sudeikis, Elizabeth Olsen and Ed Harris.
PARSONS, KS April 19, 2018 – The Parsons Telegraph will present a one-time special screening of the forthcoming original Netflix feature film “KODACHROME” at the Parsons Municipal Auditorium on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 7.30 p.m.
“KODACHROME” narrates a story about struggling A&R executive Matt (Jason Sudeikis) who finds his world turned upside down when his estranged father's nurse (Elizabeth Olsen) shows up unexpectedly in his office. Matt's father, a famed bad-boy photojournalist (Ed Harris), is facing terminal cancer and his dying wish is for Matt to join him on a road trip from New York to Kansas to process his last rolls of Kodachrome film before the sole remaining lab closes and those captured moments are gone forever.
“KODACHROME is a film about three people who are trying to navigate a world that has changed from grain to pixels, vinyl to mp3s, and analog to digital. Thrown together, each of them learns to accept the mistakes of their past in order to move forward with their lives and find love and acceptance in places they never thought they would. Finding this film was serendipitous to say the least. I had woken up to feed my then 6-month old son, and every time I tried to put him down he would fuss and cry, so I kept him in my arms, opened up my computer and read the script for the first time. When I had finished, my son was sleeping, and I was in tears. I immediately knew that I needed to make this film. I could relate to both sides of the father–son relationship and its themes aligned with what I needed to engage in and explore in my life at the time.” said Director, Mark Raso.
“April 19th is a special date on the calendar. This year it not only marks the 18th anniversary since a historic tornado devastated downtown, but in partnership with the community, we celebrate the special screening of ‘KODACHROME’ – an outstanding, powerful and entertaining film that incorporates the City of Parsons into its story-line.” said Nick Smith, Publisher of the Parsons Telegraph. “We couldn’t be more thrilled that ‘KODACHROME’ is screening in Parsons. If it weren’t for Dwayne’s Photo and the part they played in the history of Kodachrome and Kodak, the story of our movie wouldn’t exist!” said Producer, Eric Robinson. “It’s nice for Parsons to be recognized for our place in the history of Kodachrome, add to that Netflix allowing us to preview their movie one day prior to release is truly something special.” said City of Parsons Mayor, Kevin Cruse. “We are thrilled to see one of our local businesses featured so prominently in this beautiful film.” said Ashley Duncan, Director of the Parsons Chamber of Commerce. “The people that made this possible deserve our sincere thanks. It’s not often you get to preview a movie a day before the rest of the world. It’s events such as this one that will continue to promote Parsons and its’ unique opportunities.” said Jim Zaleski, Economic Development and Tourism Director.
The film is presented by the Parsons Telegraph and screened in association with Netflix, with special thanks to the City of Parsons, Parsons Municipal Auditorium, Tom Davis Auto Group, Stephanie Tuggle KW Select Realty and Parsons Chamber of Commerce. Origin of the story: December 29, 2010. New York Times ran an article by A. G. Sulzberger (“For Kodachrome Fans, Road Ends at Photo Lab in Kansas”) about the discontinuation of Kodachrome film. Sulzberger, who wrote from the Midwest, received a tip from a Metro reporter in New York, who’d heard that the last machine in the world that could develop Kodachrome film — in a lab in Parsons, Kansas — was being retired.
